Child labour and trafficking within source communities is aggravated by economic hardship and lack of secured livelihoods opportunities. Secured livelihoods are essential in providing permanent homes for rescued children and protecting them from the risk of re-trafficking. However, CLaT susceptible households are vulnerable to economic shocks and excluded from mainstream livelihood development opportunities.

The European Union-funded SECRIFISE project supported some selected fish processors from vulnerable households, susceptible to child labour and trafficking with training on Business and Financial Management. The training’s purpose was to equip the women within the fishing industry with financial literacy skills in order to strengthen their business and financial management capabilities.  This is intended to generate sustainable income to increase their household income levels.
